Coconino County Sheriff's Office is under the commandment of Sheriff Pribil. He has been the Sheriff of Coconino County since 1974. The Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement services to all unincorporated areas of the county. This includes operation of the county jail, conduction of search and rescue operations, serving the civil process and providing patrol and investigative services to the citizens of the County.
Special Units include: Community Policing, Boat Patrol, High Angle / Heli Rescue, Mounted Unit, and Search & Rescue. The Sheriff's Department organization is comprised of the following Divisions: Administration, Patrol Divisions, Criminal Investigations, Support Services, and Detention Facility.
The Patrol Division is divided into the Flagstaff Patrol District, Page Patrol District, and Williams Patrol District. The duties of the Civil Process Service and Search and Rescue are located within this structure as well. The Criminal Investigations Division also is an integral part of operations.
The Search and Rescue (SAR) unit consists of approximately 100 volunteer men and women and trained deputies. The volunteer's are rained in many specialty areas of search and rescue. The undergo extensive technical training program utilizes utilize ATV's, 4 X 4's, helicopters, boats, mountain/rock climbing gear, scuba gear, horses, skiers and snowmobiles to conduct searches and rescues. On average, the Search and Rescue unit responds to 139 calls each year. Since July 1998, Search and Rescue has saved 539 lives.
